An elite team of police officers on Wednesday 8th, February 2023 surrounded the home of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i at Karen, Nairobi in an attempt to arrest him.

The reason for the attempt to arrest him has not yet been revealed, Dr. Matiang’i who openly campaigned against President William Ruto made a public appearance last week in the company of former President Uhuru and his former cabinet colleague at Magoha’s Lavington home. He has been coordinating funeral arrangements for the late former Education CS.

Raila Odinga was among the first people to arrive at the former cabinet secretary’s home where he promised to stand with Dr. Mating’i against any intimidation from the government. The Azimio leader also asked Kenyans to be against the current regime which is using power to terrorize its citizens.

“The people of Kenya must resist the imposition of a regime on them that wants to use police power to terrorize this country, it is completely unacceptable it will not be accepted and we will not allow it to happen, not only to Mr. Matiang’i but anybody else, to ensure the rule of law of this country is respected.” Said Raila.

Dr. Matiang’is’ lawyer Danstan Omari while addressing the media at the scene claimed the government is treating the former cabinet secretary in his own country.

“My client is holed up as a fugitive in his own country, this is a former minister in charge of interior security and civility must be retained. We cannot have a rogue government that comes at midnight to arrest the former cabinet secretary,” said Omari in part of his address to the media.

Omari further asked the government if they wanted to arrest the former interior cabinet secretary they should follow the law as required by the rule of law.

“If they want the former CS and that’s what we are telling everybody we will provide him to where they want him, if they want to do any search because that’s what they want they should follow the law and not invade his house to go in and plant guns there and fake things then frame him with trumped up charges,” Omari added.

The police officers drove off after the matter went viral and attracted the attention of the country, police spokesperson has not yet revealed the reason for the invasion and an attempt to arrest the former minister.
