The family of Fred Ogesa Ondieki from Matierio, Kisii county, whose house was torched down, have been relieved by well-wishers who brought the family foodstuffs and essential items for use.

YouTuber Mary Esther highlighted the family’s plight on her YouTube channel on 16/01/2023. According to the father, their house was torched down by unknown assailants on Saturday night while they were in a night vigil for one of their village mates who had died, and the motive has not been known yet.

Fred received the distasteful news from his aunt, who his brother tipped through the phone. He ran towards his home to see whether he could save anything, but he was not lucky as the fire had razed everything.

The father of three, who does menial jobs, says he doesn’t recall anyone he has wronged and why someone will torch his house with all their belongings. The emotional family has been spending nights in the cold as they have nowhere to shelter themselves since they lost everything in the inferno.

While interviewed by YouTube content creator Mary Esther, the emotional dad called upon well-wishers and the government to chip in and help them with clothes and foodstuffs to help him sustain his young kids.

“Nilipata ujumbe kutoka kwa shangazi yangu kuwa nyumba yangu ilikua inachomeka, tulikimbia ili kuona kama tungeweza kuzima moto lakini kwa bahati mbaya tulipata kila kitu kilikua kimeteketea.” said in part if the interview.

Today well-wishers visited the home with foodstuff and essential items for the family. The content creator was among those who visited the family and thanked the well-wishers for the support they gave the family, and she also revealed that plans are underway to build the family a house.
